Talmage participated yesterday in the school Spelling Bee, as we had stated in our Christmas newsletter, and he WON!!!! He is the first 6th grader to win the school Bee, and therefore, we believe, the youngest! After words like "schedule," "curriculum," and "electoral," he won with "emancipation," a word he hadn't studied or ever remembered hearing before. Shan and Talm practiced a LOT for this and it paid off.
Before the Bee, there were several of the 19 finalists whispering together things like "That kid is smart," or "That's Teagan's brother; we've lost already!"
Teagan was able to be there to watch too, since his uncle let him out of PE class. Teag wanted to stand in the back, in military "at-ease" position, but I told he that would be intimidation of the competition! He sat by me instead. Shan was in the van with Tan, Syd & Stace and joined one of the classes watching on the broadcast system when it was down to the final three contestants, so he was able to watch Talm win! From that class, he was able to watch as other classmates of Talm were cheering him on.
We had hoped for a dynasty, and Talmage obliged! Talmage has always loved to play with words and this is really a perfect fit for his talent! The Island Bee is in February - and hopefully we can get a picture of him smiling then!!!
P.S. From the twins bathtub quiz of last month, the one smiling is Staci!! It is such a Staci expression, even though you can't see her Band-aid!
Aloha to all!!
